History: the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin area (bgcaa), founded in 1967, is dedicated to working with economically disadvantaged and high risk youth in Travis and bastrop counties. In pursuit of our mission, we have established a strong presence in Austin's most distressed neighborhoods, where poverty runs high, and where many kids would, without the availability of our Clubs, be left alone while their parents work long hours to support their families, and are generally without the resources to provide their children with the type of out-of-school-time enrichment activities we offer. Bgcaa currently serves nearly 2,000 children, ages 6 to 18 every day at 34 Clubs located throughout greater Austin, at schools, community centers and public housing sites.
