Youth development & childcare - the broome County Ymca youth, teen, and family programs give children positive role models to help them develop self-esteem and good values, including: cooperation, respect, good citizenship, and strong work ethic. Ymca family programs allow families an opportunity to learn and grow together in a non competitive environment. The broome County Ymca day camp provides a lasting experience of personal enrichment. Camp offers adventure and learning activities that provide a challenge and promote mental development, physical well being, social growth, and capabilities. The Ymca provides high quality child care by offering comprehensive activities for infant, preschool and school age children. The programs attract and serve all members of our diverse community. Youth aquatic program help children adjust to the aquatic environment making them safe in the water and teach life long skills. Ymca family programs allow families an opportunity to learn and grow together in a non competitive environment. Woven into the fabric of the Ymca mission is a commitment to strengthening families. We provide financial assistance to all in need.
Housing & homeless services - the broome County Ymca offers housing on a transitional and temporary basis for low income and homeless men. The purpose is to provide a wholesome, supportive environment, to assist and improve the basic living skills of our clients. A variety of services that include advising, recreational, and interventional are provided to the men. Many of our residents are involved in drug and alcohol counseling and the Ymca maintains a drug and alcohol free environment to live in. The Ymca offers safe, clean, no cost shelter for adult males 18 years of age and over. Support services are available for all individuals so they can get back on their feet and become productive members of society again.
Healthy living - the broome County Ymca views health holistically: a healthy person has unity of body, mind and spirit. The Ymca has identified the growing national obesity rates in this country as a critical social issue that must be addressed. Our health and well being programs are designed to help people develop new skills and grow in spirit, mind and body by setting realistic goals for self improvement and disease prevention. This is achieved through an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, stress management and health education. Broome County Ymca programs promote interaction, teamwork and the development of moral and ethical behavior, social skills and self esteem. We serve all ages, abilities, races, nationalities and religions and provide financial assistance to those who need it.
