Program areas at Big Bend Hospice Foundation
Big Bend Hospice Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) was established in 1996 exclusively in support of the programs, services, activities, and interests of Big Bend Hospice, Inc. (BBH), a related tax exempt organization. The foundation continues as the fundraising arm of BBH, raising funds for patient and family support programs. Programs supported include the bereavement services program, which offers care for children and teens grieving the loss of a loved one. Professional counselors listen, teach and provide strategies for these children to successfully navigate the grieving process. Music therapy offers prescribed use of music by trained professionals to attain specific therapeutic goals and enhance patient care. Funds are also raised to support a variety of other programs including special patient needs, chaplains & spiritual support, and other patient & family care needs. The Foundation began a five year capital campaign to raise $5 million for a new inpatient unit in the local non-profit hospital, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. This inpatient unit (now named First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care) is a state-of-the-art 8 bed unit designed to provide the comfort of home and the compassion of hospice for patients and families. The unit opened late November 2023.
