Program areas at Beyond Monumental
Beyond Monumental hosts three exceptional running events, the Indianapolis Monumental mile, the indy half at fort ben, and the cno financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. Proceeds from these events are used to promote youth health and wellness in central Indiana and raise funds to support student participation in the apex benefits Monumental kids movement.in 2021, the Beyond Monumental board of directors set aside $150,000 of its earnings to fund the activities and donations for the 2022 year. In 2022, Beyond Monumental offered a new 10k distance at the indy half at fort ben; as well as offered a stand-alone apex benefits Monumental kids movement race benefitting the kids in participating Indianapolis area school districts. In 2023, Beyond Monumental will be adding a 5k to its Monumental mile event in june.
The apex benefits Monumental kids movement is a seven-to-nine-week, curriculum-based youth running program that culminates with students running a 5k. This bi-weekly program focuses on educating students about the benefits of exercise, proper diet, and healthy living. In 2022, the apex benefits Monumental kids movement continued its in person participation for schools within several central Indiana school districts including Indianapolis public schools, lawrence township, pike township and perry township school districts. In october 2022, Beyond Monumental hosted its first annual stand-alone apex benefits Monumental kids movement 5k race and health expo. More than 20 health and wellness vendors came out to the grounds of lucas oil stadium to host a health expo for over 1200 participants, parents, and mentors prior to and during the 5k race that started and ended at lucas oil stadium. In addition to the 2021 funds set aside by the Beyond Monumental board of directors, Beyond Monumental raised an additional 72,813 through sponsorships and race participant donations for 2022 programming. Cash donations of $77,815 were paid out to participating school districts, and other program and event costs totaled $47,714. Additionally, Beyond Monumental has an allocation of salaries and other employee related expenses of $71,448 for program expenses directly tied to the apex benefits Monumental kids movement program and event. At its annual meeting in january 2023, the Beyond Monumental board of directors again voted to continue to have a total of $150,000 in restricted funds for 2023 apex benefits Monumental kids movement programming. In 2023, health and wellness programming will continue, and students will again be able to participate in a stand-alone 5k event. The program is continually looking to expand within its current school districts as well as adding new school districts.
