Program areas at Better Housing Together
Expanded local partner network to more than 50 local organizations and businesses who are working collaboratively to increase housing affordability, diversity and supply in Lane County. Engaged in quarterly remote workshops and shared ongoing housing advocacy opportunities and research across social media, enewsletters, and dozens of community presentations within and outside our partner network. Shared policy background and engagement opportunities to more than 30,000 local neighbors to encourage participation in housing policy work, and generated nearly 8,000 individual engagements via social media outreach. Shared results from local polling work to understand the local housing crisis and widespread support for zoning reform. Researched and designed infographics summarizing history of housing discrimination in Oregon, the importance of neighborhood housing diversity to address discrimination against non-white and low-income community members, and examples of existing neighborhood housing diversity.
Supported local efforts to facilitate smaller, more diverse and affordable housing via improvements to the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) code and the creation of a series of workshops to support local incremental development. Convened design leaders to support and advise the adopted, pre-approved ADU plan and permitting path, a City-based program that offers significant monetary and time savings to individuals planning to build an ADU.
Led community education and outreach efforts in Lane County related to local implementation of Oregons Middle Housing state law (HB 2001). Prepared research-based infographics including background on local housing need, demographic change, local wages relative to available housing, and opportunities to improve housing affordability and diversity through local regulatory decisions. Monitored policy proposals and provided updates to community partners and stakeholder groups.
