Program areas at The Bellingham Public School Foundation
Student & family support: direct assistance to families so that students in our schools have their basic needs met in order to be able to learn. The impact of The covid 19 pandemic caused a drastic increase in need for food, clothing, beds, and personal care items.
Salary support for strategic employees of Bellingham Public schools: grant writers have secured more than $10,000,000 in additional resources for our district; volunteer coordinator has coordinated and connected more than 7,000 community members and 30 community partner organizations to volunteer opportunities in our schools.
Parent group equity: supporting our four middle schools parent groups by acting as fiscal sponsor for an equity-based, joint fundraiser that recognizes differences in socioeconomics across School populations. Funds are disbursed so that more resources go to schools with The highest needs.
Wellness: supporting vaccine clinics for students and staff during The covid 19 pandemic; food education and School gardens; mental health staff training and student support.fiscal sponsorship: extending non-profit sponsorship for some of our highest need schools where there is no traditional pta model so that parents can provide financial support to those schools. Annual educator grants: multi-lingual books and libraries that reflect diversity & inclusion; activities that engage life skills and special education students; family engagement events; drums for all elementary music programs; theater program support. Early childhood education: grads classrooms at our high schools that provide childcare and support for young mothers so they can stay in School and prepare for successful futures. Visual & performing arts: all-student partcipation in high School artists as truthtellers project; 6th grade band tutoring; orchestra instrument acquisition and maintenance; additional funding for elementary drums.equity, diversity, inclusion: programs that celebrate diversity; back to School block party that welcomes multicultural students and families into our School community. District event support: promise awards highlight The outstanding contribution that staff and community members make to our schools; annual staff retirement recognition. Supporting staff moral and great teaching leads to The best outcome for our students. Student club grants: awarded to high School and middle School clubs who showcase ingenuity and give students a voice. Stem: grants that support science, technology, engineering and math projects in The classroom; salmon in The classroom program providing salmon eggs and aquariums to elementary schools; travel for hs robotics team to world championships.
