Program areas at BAYCAT

In 2022, BAYCAT served 220 low-income youth, young BIPOC, and young women in total. Our pre-vocational and vocational film and digital arts programs were delivered virtually (early 2022) as well as hybrid and in-person (summer-winter 2022) at BAYCATs Dogpatch headquarters. We served youth through our virtual and in-person Workshop on Wheels partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), introductory and advanced youth filmmakers, paid Studio interns through our hybrid internship program, and fellows through our hybrid Fellowship for Emerging Creatives. We continued to deliver our Apprenticeship program with intern alumni to further broaden their skill sets, support portfolio-building projects, and expand their networks as a member of our Studio team. To increase access for our participants and close the digital divide, we leveraged our partner networks to secure free software licenses and provided our youth with core production tools like a DSLR camera, camera lenses, audio and lighting equipment, and more through our Creatives of Color Media Kit Fund. BAYCAT also supported 122 of our alumni through our first iteration of InFocus: Diverse Storytellers Spotlight & Creative Media Mixer, creating more direct hiring opportunities with partners like Walt Disney Studios, Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic, ILMxLab, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios. Our Studio produced 67 media deliverables for 11 community partners, including nonprofits, philanthropy, and local government agencies.
