Program areas at Bay Area Lesbian Archives

We host cultural events that highlight lesbian and women's history, including author readings, archiving workshops and community meetings. We train young volunteers to interview lesbian elders to preserve their stories. We are the fiscal sponsor for Mothertongue Feminist Theater Collective. In May 2023 we received a bequest from the estate of Elana Dykewomon in the form of a building in Oakland, CA to use as our permanent home. We cleared out the Dykewomon family home, moved our archives from 3 self-storage units, set up shelving, set up AC units in each of the 3 storage areas, and set up the library, office and processing rooms.
