Program areas at Baltimore City Community College Foundation
In fy2022, bccc Foundation received $50,000 from the pepsico Foundation for the pepsico Foundation uplift scholarship. The pepsico Foundation uplift scholarship and professional mentoring program supports african american and hispanic/latnx aspiring and graduating Community College students. These scholarships were available for students seeking two-year associate degrees or workforce training programs with industry certification. These scholarships supported Baltimore student of color who may have faced barriers such as affordable housing access, childcare support, insufficient transportation, and food insecurity. The scholarships were awarded in the fall, 2022 semester (fy2023) to support twenty-five african american and hispanic/latinx students completing workforce training, lower-division certificates and/or degrees in a career pathway that leads to industry-recognized credentials. Scholarships also provided wrap-around support for pepsico Foundation uplift scholars to address the barriers that often prevent students from completing the necessary coursework to pursue a degree or certificate. The pepsico Foundation uplift scholarship covered tuition, fees, required textbooks and incidentals. In addition to training and job placement services, the workforce development division of the College (wdced) also worked with a Community partner to provide these students with complete wraparound services to meet their unique needs. These services included general barrier removal, case management, transportation assistance, and student success coaching.
Scholarships - 52 endowed and non-endowed scholarships were awarded to very deserving students at the Baltimore City Community College majoring in various disciplines including business management, computer information systems, nursing, physical therapy, and general studies. All of the students were from diverse minority backgrounds and had a minimum of a 2.5 gpa and were enrolled in Baltimore City Community College for at least one semester.
