Program areas at Ballet Idaho
In a celebratory return to live performance, three professional mainstage performances of Ballet were performed in boise, Idaho including the second show run of a new production of the nutcracker that included vibrant new sets and costumes, a winter program titled stories we tell which included works by two national choreographers and one balanchine work. In march, the anthology program included six short works by national choreographers, company dancers and artistic staff choreographers. Also in march, the students in the trainee program staged their own performance. Finally in may, after being cancelled in 2020 due to covid-19, the family favorite beauty and the beast was performed along with a world premier creation by our artistic associate of peter and the wolf. Through our outreach program, students from area schools and outlying rural schools were bussed to the mainstage venue for an abbreviated performance of the nutcracker and beauty and the beast/peter and the wolf. As stewards and professional artists in the art form of Ballet, our goal is to bring the community together to enrich lives and instill a life-long appreciation of classic Ballet and all of the arts as related in western culture.
The utilization of academy students and teaching artists for education outreach in schools. This program returned to onsite school instruction as well as virtual instruction by request. Teaching artists visited elementary schools which included title i schools, in the treasure valley, introducing dance movements and Ballet technique to children as well as demonstrating the dance arts as a learning tool for teachers, through our learning through dance program. In addition, scholarships were granted to students from the participating schools and the schools were invited to abbreviated performances of the nutcracker and beauty and the beast/peter and the wolf.
Operation of an academy of dance in support of and in partnership with the professional Ballet company. Students received dance instruction in class and ages 5-20 have the opportunity to participate in the live dance performances described in line 4a and 4c. With great joy, all academy performances and recitals were held as live performances. The academy's goal is to train all ages in the physical discipline and artistic merits of classical dancing through musicality, precision of movement and mental aptitude.
