Program areas at Ballet Fantastique
Dance education: in fy 21-22, Ballet Fantastique offered year-round dance classes and workshops for youth ages 2-18, with a separate community teen/adult dance education program. The academy of Ballet Fantastique: reached 350+ students via dance education classes, offered nearly 50 wks of the year and taught by an international team of professional teaching artists; offered scholarship support and financial aid to ensure need-blind admissions for talented students (approximately 55% of students received some kind of financial assistance); and conducted additional special camps and workshops. Spanish-english bilingual youth Ballet classes further reduced participation access barriers.
Dance education & outreach: Ballet Fantastique's passport to dance and experience dance outreach programs reached approximately 1000 title i schoolchildren, including the company's unique jazz Ballet movie spin on charles dickens' "christmas carol". Educator classroom packets and a post-performance q&a supplemented the passport to dance youth learning experience for students watching the production virtually.
New dance theater: Ballet Fantastique continued to adapt and re-imagine dance performances in fy 21-22, including 38 events. Innovated performance offerings included encore outdoor offerings "Ballet in the vineyard"(silvan ridge winery; sold out; sept. 2021) and "Ballet on the green" (shadow hills country club; sold out; sept. 2021/june 2022). Ballet Fantastique's live hult center distanced performances in 21-22 included cirque de la lune (oct 2021), arrivals: rio world premiere (nye 2021), and beauty & the beast (mar 2022), as well as livestreams of each performance to home and international audiences. Artistic projects included international cross- disciplinary collaborations such as painter milla oliveira (brazil), projection designer gustavo ramirez (colombia), choreographer valeria da costa ball (brazil), ronroco composer-artist juan cruz luqui (argentina), and international award-winning musical artists trio voronezh, among many others. Engagement events included a modified return of the "open barre" open studio rehearsal experience, as well as the company's first Idaho tour with performances in moscow, id and by invitation of the tribal leaders of the nez perce nation. Bfan's audience impact continued to grow with up to 42% of audiences entirely new to the company's work.
