Program areas at Atlantic Theater Company
Since our inception, Atlantic has been training young people in the theater at Atlantic Acting School, where we equip our students with the physical, emotional, and analytical tools of acting to discover their truths and prepare them for success beyond our doors. Each year, we offer an accredited conservatory program, a BFA program operated through New York University, and afterschool and summer programs for children and teenagers from across the city. We're also serving over 3,500 NYC public school students through various arts education programs. In STAGING SUCCESS, Atlantic partners with three public high schools to offer in or afterschool cross-curricular theater classes. Simultaneously, Atlantic's DISCOVER SUCCESS is a matinee program providing students from 30 NYC schools with tickets to Atlantic productions, pre-show classroom visits with teaching artists, study guides, and post-show discussions with the play's cast. Older students receive tickets to Atlantic productions while younger children attend one of the company's ATLANTIC FOR KIDS shows - which will return in 2023. We also serve neurodiverse children and young adults -particularly those with autism - through ACCESS SUCCESS.
Studio and theater spaces, when not being used for Atlantic programs, are available to rent. Atlantic offers space at scaled prices to help our school alumni build their artistic ensembles, to help other theater education organizations address social issues through the use of theater, and to provide young or up-and-coming non-profit theater companies the opportunity to bring their work to the New York City audience. (Please note that these activities were suspended by the COVID-19 health crisis.) Miscellaneous other income is received for various program-related activities.
At Atlantic Theater Company, we're an award-winning producer, premiering intrepid playwrights like Rajiv Joseph, Lauren Yee, and Dominique Morisseau as well as Tony-winning musicals such as "THE BAND'S VISIT"THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES." As part of this work, each season we produce five productions at the company's two theater spaces in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan: the 199-seat Linda Gross Theater on West 20th Street and the 99-seat Stage 2 theater on West 16th Street. Productions programmed as part of Atlantic's 2021 22 digital season included Dominique Morisseau's "SKELETON CREWRajiv Joseph's "GUARDS AT THE TAJ." We also continued our New Play Development programs digitally and served over 12 playwrights through digital readings and workshops.
