Program areas at Athens Community Council on Aging
Adult day service programs provide quality supportive services for adults with functional impairments in a safe and secure environment. Adult day is designed for individuals who do not require 24 hour institutional care but are not capable of full-time independent living due to a physical or cognitive disability.
The senior Community employment service program provides older adults who are low-income, aged 55 and older, and unable to find employment with part-time work training opportunities. On-the job and bi-monthly training and assistance is provided.
The meals on wheels program fosters independent living and prevents premature or unnecessary institutionalization of older adults and those with disabilities.
The center for active living provides noonday meals, wellness programming, education and recreation. The center for active living is a multi-purpose center dedicated to offering a variety of opportunities to older adults in the Athens area to participate actively in unique social, cultural, educational and health related services and programs. The transportation program provides door to door escort to acca programs and other medical, social services, and shopping trips in clarke county. The georgiacares program offers free, unbiased counseling on health insurance coverage and issues including medicare and medicaid. The long-term care ombudsman program advocates for the rights of nursing home and personal care home residents, provides educational opportunities, and investigates and resolves complaints in long-term care facilities.
