Program areas at Asian American Federation
Policy & Advocacy:1) AAF advocated for and helped secure nearly $37 million to fund 147 community organizations, including 30 new organizations in Long Island and upstate New York.2) We successfully advocated for $5 million in New York City funding for language access worker cooperatives and a community interpreter bank.3) To date, AAF staff have provided testimony at 30 City and State hearings.Hope Against Hate Campaign:1) AAFs Hope Against Hate campaign trained 2,400+ community members across 100+ workshops in situational awareness, upstander intervention, and self-defense skills.2) Our Hope Against Hate grantees have connected 3700+ clients to victim support services.3) Our safety booklets, videos, and resources have reached over 70,000 Americans.Mental Health:1) AAF launched the first Asian mental health directory with 180 NYC mental health providers who combined speak over 17 different Asian languages.2) Nearly 3,000 Asian Americans received psychoeducation services to strengthen individual and community mental health.3) Over 31,000 clinical services were provided to low-income and immigrant community members across all age groups.4) Nearly 1,700 case management services were provided to support Asian Americans in navigating their mental, emotional, and physical health.Immigrant Integration:In all five boroughs, we connected 1,100+ new immigrants across 40 events and workshops to the information, skills, and resources they need to achieve their American dreams in areas like vaccine access, anti-Asian hate, digital literacy, educational access, and housing security.Small Business/Economic Empowerment: We opened a second office location in Murray Hill, Queens to be at the heart of the vibrant Asian small business districts in Queens.1) We hosted 15 community events held on our Barton Avenue Open Street as part of our commercial corridor revitalization project in Murray Hill.2) Our small business team supported 8,000 Asian-owned small businesses with technical assistance and advocacy.3) Surveyed community members on environmental justice policy conversations.4) Facilitated 5 meetings for small business organizations and merchants to discuss concerns with key agencies and elected officials.Civic Engagement:The 10 member-strong AAPI Power Coalition led by AAF made over 310,000 contacts with Asian voters from diverse backgrounds through targeted campaigns, including phone, text and mail, in-person canvassing, and print advertisements. 1) We created and distributed a voter guide for the June and August primaries and November midterm election available in 8 Asian languages.2) Our research showed that the AAF- led AAPI Power Coalitions culturally-competent outreach boosted Asian voter turnout by 11 percentage points in the 2021 mayoral primary.Research:We produced 3 reports, 5 briefs, and 6 ethnic profiles in 2022, furthering our data-driven advocacy.
