Arts Express Theatre increased the number of musical theatre offerings from seven in 2020-21 to eight in 2021-22
Arts Express Theatre operates the Monte Awards in each year in partnership with Broadway in Tucson. The Monte Awards are a division of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Over 70 students participated in this regional program, with 2 students going to New York City to represent our area at the national competition.
Arts Express Theatre's educational programs included classes and workshops during the school year, focused on the triple threat skills of musical theatre (dance, acting and singing). In addition, AET operated two summer camps (Jungle Book Kids and James and the Giant Peach Jr). Over 75 youth participated in these programs.
The Box Office has become the nucleus of all that is happening at AET. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm AND every production weekend for two hour prior to each show. Because AET is located in a busy mall, the public drops in regularly to tour the facility to gain information about the season and educational offerings. During that time, music is playing and live musicians or dancers are often performing. Sometimes, we have open piano hours for the public to step in and play a song or two on our beautiful grand piano. It is wonderful to provide an arts hub to this retail environment!
