Program areas at Artreach
Artreach supports mental health recovery for approximately 60 low income adults with psychiatric disabilities, plus community members who want to use the arts for mental wellness. Their events build artistic skills and life skills; reduce isolation; and educate the public, reducing mental health stigma. Transportation is provided to in-person activities; technical support and computer equipment are provided for on-line groups and classes. Approximately 2,000 audience members attend Artreach theater and music performances annually. These numbers are increasing due to the addition of live-streamed theatrical performances, art gallery talks, and poetry readings.theater: the second step players created new virtual theater and are writing new material for live shows.new theater: "people like us," a teleplay on racism in the workplace, with facilitation discussion. 10 presentations at libraries and mental health agencies.kickoff of devised theater project on racial disparity in healthcare mental healthcare.music: 2021 saw the return of in-person music rehearsals for a public concert. Artreach's jazz group practices weekly, and plays at art openings. Guitar and bass lessons are available virtually. Monthly virtual "music moment" presentations featuring artists from different cultures. Annual participation in international "make music day. "art: art classes, exhibits in the community, and art openings with the Artreach jazz band were enhanced by live-streamed gallery talks.virtual and in-person classes:year-round classes continue both in-person and through zoom. This hybrid model will continue, erasing geographic and other barriers to participation. Classes include playwriting, acting, poetry writing, and painting. Classes are taught by Artreach staff and members as well as local professional artists. Wellness and recreation: curated virtual group tours to worldwide arts and cultural sites, virtual meditation and movement, book clubs, groups in vision boarding and bullet journal, in-person walking club and community outings.
