Program areas at Arctic Research Consortium of the United States Incorporated

ARCTIC LOGISTICS COMMUNITY SCIENCE PLANNING: ARCUS worked with the U.S. Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee IARPC to provide support and bring research community perspectives to inform the U.S. government's Arctic Research Plan; provided support to the Study of Environmental Arctic Change SEARCH program; and organized a series of online Arctic research webinars.
CORE SUPPORT: Core support included the technological and management infrastructure that supports information and outreach networking and other communications tasks across the disciplinary organizational sector cultural and geographic boundaries of Arctic research. In addition as part of this category ARCUS finalized a report for a workshop on Engaging Rural and Alaska Native Undergraduates and Youth in Arctic STEM.
OUTREACH AND INFORMATION: Key activities included the ArcticInfo email list with over 4,800 subscribers a Calendar of Arctic Research Events the Witness the Arctic Newsletters with over 8,700 subscribers a Conducting Research with Northern Communities online resource a comprehensive public website hosting students with the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program a conference funding award for early career researchers and a program to support Arctic Indigenous Scholars. The PolarTREC program supported the development of educators by placing and supporting them as part of a polar field research team. The Arctic in the Classroom project connects rural Alaska teachers with researchers working in their communities to engage students and residents in research projects. The Sea Ice for Walrus Outlook is a collaboration between coastal Arctic Alaska communities the National Weather Service and other scientists to provide forecasts and on-the-ground information about local conditions to enable safe subsistence activities. ARCUS also coordinated the Sea Ice Prediction Network SIPN project to improve Arctic sea ice forecasts using a multi-disciplinary approach; held a virtual conference for Community and Citizen Science in the Far North; and continued planning for an in-person event in 2023 Beringia Days 2023: Building Bridges for Shared Conservation and Cultural Goals.
