Program areas at Apparent Project
For the 2023 tax year:these are the accomplishments for the 2023-2024 school year:- the Apparent Project education program begins with childcare for infants & toddlers, continues with early education offered in preschool & elementary school, and includes typing & computer skills starting in 4th grade. Our job skills program includes basic english & computer skills for teens & adults.- Apparent Project childcare, preschool & early education school currently has 110 children attending. Our childcare cares for infants & toddlers up to age 2. Our preschool includes 3 classes for children ages 2 through 4. The elementary level includes kindergarten through 6th grade in our 2023-2024 school year. We plan to continue adding a grade each year through 9th grade because in 2022, Apparent Project was certified by the haitian government to operate classes through ninth grade. In the 2024-2025 school year we plan to add 7th grade!students at Apparent Project are taught french, haitian kreyol and english. The students are learning well and enjoying their time at school. Almost all Apparent Project students regularly pass the required tests to move forward to the next grade level. If not, they receive tutoring in the problem subject so they can pass all tests. Ap has established a good reputation, often with a waiting list to enroll.- Apparent Project institute adds another element to our educational system. We offer job & educational skills training! We've trained over 250 adults, teenagers & elementary students. Skills training for elementary students begins in 4th grade. The focus is on typing! But it also gives students experience in operating a computer. The plan is to add more english & computer application skills to their curriculum in the future.teens and adults start with typing, then learn basic english & the computer application skills. These students first learn to type. Then they study & practice speaking basic english. In addition, they are trained in basic computer applications, studying microsoft excel, word, powerpoint and more! We offer this training to teens in the local area, to our ap staff & other adults in the area, often to haitian managers and other workers.this training improves opportunities for further education and better employment for haitian workers. It has increased the abilities of ap staff in providing management reports and will help them with better employment opportunities throughout their lifetime. Oin 2023, two ap institute teachers completed the initial advanced software training. Due to unrest in haiti, it wasn't possible for qualified students to be trained by our teachers, so these teachers continued with training was done through a university of Michigan & carnegie mellon university program. A seasoned software programmer supervises this program using zoom. The plan is to have these 2 teachers train qualified students in these skills.
Since 2009, the Apparent Project has distributed & sold haitian handcrafts through event/party boxes & fundraiser orders. These programs were severely affected by covid19 since they are based on events and gatherings. However, in 2021, gatherings and events resumed. We continue to sell haitian items through event/party & fundraiser orders, but with a more custom approach. We've adapted to the changing environment.
