Program areas at ASL

The Appalachian School of Law (asl) began the fall semister of 2021 with 62 full-time 1l students enrolled in the jd program for a total enrollment of 158 students. In the spring of 2022, asl awarded the jd degree to 41 graduates. Based on student addresses at the time of enrollment,50% of the 2022 student body were residents of the Appalachian region. Asl students have completed over 250,000 hours of community service since the School's founding. A 2020 survey of five recent asl classes established that 58% of our graduates are living, practicing,and serving their communities within the Appalachian region. Additionally, a survey of students nine months after graduation shows that 31% of the 2021 graduates were serving their communities in the Appalachian region. Between asl's first graduating class and 2020, 62% of new resident lawyers in the seven counties surrounding the Appalachian School of Law received their j.d. Degrees from asl. The Appalachian School of Law's contribution to new lawyers in the seven counties totaled 6% during the same period.
