Program areas at Apano Communities United Fund
Apano cuf's youth-focused programs provided a health education co-hort (taro) for fourteen youth ages 14-21, and a youth organizing co-hort (ally), which engaged bipoc youth ages 13-21 in leadership development, community organizing, and political education.
Apano cuf focuses on arts and cultural practices that drive community change. We put community voices at the center, working with community members to create exhibitions at the orchards of 82nd building. Programs included a bipoc printmakers residency, exhibitions by the orchards of 82nd (o82) art crew, engaging residents at the orchards of 82nd in developing a community newspaper, and a playground mural project.
Apano cuf continued efforts to uplift and improve portland's jade district. Grants were awarded to businesses to provide relief from the impacts of the covid pandemic, for general improvements, and for emergency repairs due to anti-asian hate inspired vandalism. Apano also provides consulting and technical assistance to small businesses in portland's jade district.
We help Communities continue to navigate the impacts of the covid 19 pandemic through food security, small business grants, ppe distribution, and sharing public health information around covid and vaccines. We also build community resilience and belonging through virtual community online gatherings and responding to anti-asian hate.
