Program areas at Apano Communities United Fund

The 2023 jade international night market was the first one back after a 3-year hiatus from the covid-19 pandemic. While condensed to one day, we saw an abundance of support and joy that the event was back with over 100 food and retail vendors, and performances from different cultures and ethnicities. An estimated 8,000-10,000 people came to spend the day and night with us, activating the jade district while helping small businesses and entrepreneurs expand their businesses.
Having acquired the historic canton grill restaurant in portland's jade district, Apano staff led community engagement activities to involve residents in preserving this cultural landmark, incorporating generational history, as well as their hopes and dreams for the site's future.
Apano's community health program continued its family wellness initiative, offering weekly in-language physical activities and monthly family gatherings that fostered connection, resource sharing, and peer learning. With support from ohsu occyshn, we engaged vietnamese families of children with special health needs to better understand their challenges and improve access to care. Additionally, we partnered with the portland bureau of emergency management pbem to host emergency preparedness workshops and, through the pcef-funded cooling portland program, installed over 400 portable cooling units to support residents facing extreme heat.
