Program areas at AAWDC
Arpa, Anne Arundel county - to assist with Anne Arundel county's recovery from covid-19, aawdc was awarded additional funding from Anne Arundel county for a variety of projects. The first major project was a new hire & retention bonus program for public school bus drivers & attendants hired by contractors to address the critical Workforce shortage impacting the county. The other major project was a stipend program that supported residents as they engaged in Workforce Development services to connect to new and better employment which prevents individuals from taking low-wage positions out of financial need and making them less financially stable in the future. The last project was expanding summer internships for youth and young adults entering the Workforce post-covid.
Arpa state - aawdc received arpa funding from the state of Maryland to provide career Development and industry training services to individuals who were impacted by covid-19 and need to connect to new employment opportunities or transition to a new career. A special emphasis is placed on building and expanding pre-apprenticeship training, registered apprenticeship, and youth apprenticeships in Anne Arundel county. The funding will also support aawdc services to support Anne Arundel county businesses in recovering from the impact of covid-19 through business solutions services with an emphasis on increasing incumbent worker training
Workforce investment opportunity act (wioa) programs - through the one-stop career center network wioa funding provides a wide variety of Workforce service options to individuals, ranging from self-directed job search to intensive individual and group assistance to occupational training. Specialized services for veterans and persons with disabilities are available within the one-stops. Serves businesses by assisting in meeting staffing needs and in dealing with major reductions and closures. Sources of funding include Workforce investment opportunity act formula funds and discretionary grants for specific Workforce issues.
Other programs - aawdc was awarded additional funding to support Workforce Development services in Anne Arundel county through four focus areas including business solutions, industry solutions, career Development, and community services. These services serve the businesses and residents of the county and region. The funding supports customized services to help businesses build, attract, retain, and upskill the talented Workforce needed to be competitive in the global economy. The funding also support services to help residents start, transition, and advance their career through career coaching, barrier remediation, skills enhancement training, and job Development.
