Program areas at Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy
WSA offers several programs and technical support for project leaders to develop, install and maintain environmental restoration projects. Our RePlant Anne Arundel and RePlant Annapolis program installs thousands of trees in communities throughout Anne Arundel County and our RePollinate program distributes native plants to increase pollinator habitat. WSA directly supports the development of dozens of additional stormwater management projects and supports volunteers to maintain existing projects and clear invasive plants.
WSA offers many types of engagement and educational programs including: (1) Master Watershed Steward Certification Course, consists of 70 hours of field and classroom training to provide Stewards with skills and resources to mobilize their communities to reduce pollution through projects like tree planting, conservation landscapes and larger stormwater projects, and to raise awareness about actions that can reduce pollution like proper pet waste disposal and reduction of harmful home and yard chemicals. (2) Short courses such as Stormwater Success, a course for HOA leaders and property managers on stormwater management and maintenance and Tree Trooper Training, a short course for leaders developing tree planting projects, provide training and resources for leaders; (2) Spring into Action Annual Conference: This conference gathers over 250 community leaders and restoration professionals to learn, network and plan restoration efforts; (3) Continuing education and engagement programs are offered on a variety of topics such as native plants, GIS mapping tools and site assessments. Our programs are offered via a combination of virtual and in person formats. WSA supports over 300 community leaders who donate thousands of volunteer hours annually to actively engage their communities in restoration and environmental action. Each year Stewards complete hundreds of restoration projects in their communities and engage thousands of neighbors in environmental action.
