Program areas at Animal Help Now
Wildlife Emergency Service: Animal Help Now's Wildlife Emergency service connects people who encounter injured or orphaned wildlife with the closest, most appropriate wildlife rehabilitators and other wildlife emergency experts. The service was accessed almost 130,000 times in 2022, an increase of 20% over 2021.
Education and Outreach: AHNow's educational materials were accessed more than 21,000 times in 2022, dipping 18 percent from 2021. This, in addition to the public's access to the organization's social media channels (@animalhelpnow, @animalhelpnowapp and @phar).
Wildlife Conflict Service: AHNow's Wildlife Conflict service provides compassionate members of the public with humane solutions to their "nuisance" wildlife issues. The service was accessed 10,181 times in 2022, an increase of 34% over 2021.
Pet Help and Rescue App: In 2022, in the wake of Marshall Fire, which took the lives of an estimated 1,000 companion animals (pets), as well as destroying Animal Help Now's de facto office, the organization began work on a new app, giving humans a way to significantly increase the chances that their dogs and cats and other dependent animals will survive when disasters strike. For more information, see the Pet Help and Rescue website (www.PHaR.org).
Wildlife Cruelty Investigations: When someone is cruel to a wild animal, law enforcement cannot always be counted on to investigate. This is especially true when the identity of the perpetrator or the location of the incident, or both, are unknown. When Animal Help Now learns of incidents involving cruelty to wildlife, we do our best to help ensure the perpetrator is identified and brought to justice. AHNow currently limits its investigations to the sharing on social media of depictions of acts of cruelty to wildlife. AHNow is able to use these same social media platforms to reach hundreds of thousands of people, generating tips that help identify those involved with producing and sharing such depictions of cruelty.
Wildlife Rehabilitator Support: Animal Help Now benefits and supports wildlife rehabilitators in numerous ways. Animal Help Now was created with wildlife emergency professionals (a.k.a. helpers) in mind. Among the many benefits it offers wildlife rehabilitators is the ease of use as a referral tool. AHNow also makes it easy for rehabilitators to customize their own profiles, which in turn cuts down on calls from outside of their area, for species they do not assist, during hours they are not available and more. Recognizing the majority of rehabilitators work out of their homes and that they, in particular, need all the help they can get, AHNow encourages the public to fund wildlife rehabilitation operations. The content indicated in the image above appears on every rehabilitator's page. Although AHNow cannot directly fund wildlife rehabilitation operations (whether at-home or center-based), we support them in a number of ways, including spearheading fundraising campaigns, which we did following the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and the devastating effects from the early 2021 Texas winter storms. In 2022, AHNow and A Kinder World Foundation joined forces to create a formal grant program funded by Kinder World and administered by AHNow to help rehabilitators impacted by disasters.
