Program areas at AWWI
Enabling application: rewi collaborates with experts and executes trainings to ensure tools and solutions are applied to maximize conservation outcomes. Rewi's outreach and engagement work features webinars, state and regional workshops, and national meetings that ensure decision-makers have access to the latest science and solutions on Renewable Energy and Wildlife. Rewi's communications facilitate interactions with stakeholder audiences as well as the engaged public and the media.
Assessing risk: rewi's research hub serves as a central location for available information on Renewable Energy and Wildlife including publications, websites, datasets, programs, and organizations. The hub improves accessibility of information and is instrumental in identifying at-risk species and informing research priorities. The american wind Wildlife information center (awwic) is a confidential database of post-construction monitoring data from u.s. wind projects. Awwic provides access to fatality data for species across multiple sites and regions and informs widespread understanding of wind's risks to Wildlife and reduces uncertainty; informs permitting, siting, and operation; and improves conservation.
Developing solutions: rewi research projects develop tools and mitigation options for key species. Rewi's research projects are informed by key research priorities outlined in discussions with industry, state, and federal agencies, and conservation/science organizations, and have direct results for conservation. Rewi has collaborated with scientists around the world. Several rewi research projects provide on-the-ground evaluation of technologies and strategies intended to detect, deter, and/or curtail, making it possible to reduce risk for birds and bats.
