ASRT is a trade / professional association based in Albuquerque, NM that was founded in 1932. As of 2018 they had $28 million in revenue and $63 million in assets.
The mission of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists is to advance and elevate the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession and to enhance the quality and safety of patient care.
The asrt publications and communities provide information that helps Radiologic Technologists improve patient care. The scientific journals "Radiologic technology and "radiation therapist" add to the profession's body of knowledge. These journals provide educational articles on topics such as new technology, patient care and safety measures. Articles in the "asrt scanner" magazine address issues such as clinical practice trends, advocacy initiatives, career advice and professional practice standards. The asrt communities provide Radiologic Technologists a platform to connect with other Radiologic Technologists for collaborative problem solving through discussions, document sharing and networking opportunities.
The asrt develops and advocates for professional standards. For example, asrt produces educational curricula; develops practice standards and scopes of practice; promotes a professional code of ethics; issues position statements on practice-related issues; and works with accreditors, certification bodies, regulatory agencies, and state and federal lawmakers to ensure that Radiologic Technologists are educationally prepared and clinically competent.
The asrt develops educational products and organizes educational conferences to improve Radiologic Technologists' knowledge and skills; ensure that medical imaging and radiation therapy are delivered in a safe, accurate manner; and assist members of the profession in meeting continuing education requirements. To reach members located all over the country with varying work schedules, asrt has developed online education programs that are available 24/7. These programs are a lifeline to the Radiologic technology community.
