Program areas at American Society for Investigative Pathology
Publications and member servicesthe American journal of Pathology (ajp) is the leading global forum for reporting quality original research on cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease, and is the official journal of the American Society for Investigative Pathology (asip) and is published by elsevier, Inc. The journal publishes high-quality original research reports, reviews, and commentaries related to the molecular and cellular basis of disease. The editors accept manuscripts that advance basic, translational, and clinical knowledge of the mechanisms of pathogenesis or provide a foundation for future mechanistic inquiries. Examples of such foundational investigations include data mining, identification of biomarkers, molecular Pathology, and discovery research. Foundational studies that incorporate deep learning and artificial intelligence are also welcome. High priority is given to studies of human disease and relevant experimental models using molecular, cellular, and organismal approaches. The American journal of Pathology is the most highly cited journal in the field of Pathology research.the journal of molecular diagnostics (jmd) publishes high-quality original papers on scientific advances in the translation and validation of molecular discoveries in medicine into the clinical diagnostic setting, and the description and application of technological advances in the field of molecular diagnostic medicine. Articles report novel discoveries with direct application to clinical diagnostics or clinicopathologic correlations including studies in oncology, infectious diseases, inherited diseases, predisposition to disease, clinical informatics, or the description of polymorphisms linked to disease states or normal variations; the application of diagnostic methodologies in clinical trials; and the development of new or improved molecular methods for diagnosis or monitoring of disease or disease predisposition. Special features include technical advances, a peer-reviewed section featuring novel methods to solve diagnostic dilemmas. Reviews, commentaries, and special articles provide focus on controversial or "hot" research topics and issues.member servicesmember services include scientific interest groups, scientific meetings, and committees.
Advocacy advocacy activities are achieved by the asip's research and science policy committee. Areas of interest include advocating on behalf of funding for research into human diseases, human subjects protections in research, ethical use of animals in research, translational research, funding for graduate and medical education, Pathology workforce pipeline (including clinical pathologists and basic science researchers), administrative burden of regulations, health information technology, gene patent law, hippa policy and impact on research, and issues related to biorepository and biosecurity regulation.
Education and career developmenteducation and career development for trainees and young investigators represents a high priority for the Society. To facilitate educational and career development activities, the asip has two standing committees: the education committee and the committee for career development. In addition, the committee for equal representation and opportunity provides oversight for the Society's diversity and inclusion objectives. Together, these groups develop initiatives and programs to achieve the goal of providing trainees, young investigators, and others with specific opportunities to expand their knowledge in specific areas of basic, clinical, and translational pathobiology research.further, we provide opportunities for trainees, young investigators, and others to advance their careers through mentoring.
