Program areas at American Opera Projects
To develop and present new and innovative works of lyric theater, provide a creative home to emerging and established artists, and engage contemporary communities in a transformative operatic experience.Composers & the Voice, AOP's bi-annual training program, held a concert in September 2021 in Fort Greene park for upwards of 100 attendees. The concert featured selections of scenes written and composed by members of the program. This performance featured 9 resident singers and 3 stage directors, in addition to the 9 participants in the program.The AOP Mixtape, a combination fundraiser and concert presented in April 2022 at Joe's Pub in Manhattan, featured various selections from many of AOP's works in development, including Precipice, Letters That You Will Not Get, and Eat the Document.The AOP/NYU Opera Lab, a training program partnered with the Tisch School of the Arts for aspiring Opera composers and librettists, staged two performances in May 2022 based on the theme of reproductive rights.
