Program areas at AMDA

Professional development/meetings annual conference - amda presents an annual conference where speakers present content designed to expand attendees' knowledge, competency and skills in clinical Medicine, leadership and management in Long-Term Care. The event allows attendees to choose from a variety of sessions focused on different areas of Long-Term and Post-Acute Care. Content is chosen through a committee that uses activity evaluations, environmental scanning, expert opinions and standards of practice to choose topics for presentation. The program includes interactive and didactic live and online presentations.professional development and education - the content of amda's professional development activities is based on a continuous needs assessment conducted through activity evaluations, environmental sampling, expert opinion, and standards of practice, including practice guidelines. Education content is designed to expand the knowledge, competency and skills of physicians and allied healthcare professionals who treat patients in long term Care settings through national and regional dissemination of emerging information in clinical Medicine and in leadership and management in long term Care. Amda utilizes a variety of instructional methods and formats for its continuing education activities via live and on-line programs, which are based on the desired learning objectives and outcome of the educational activity. Specific activities include core curriculum on medical direction live and online courses with audience response, online asynchronous programs, and print and on-line enduring materials.
Clinical affairs products and resources are developed, and implementation skills are taught to enhance the clinical and management skill set of medical directors, attending physicians, and others practicing in the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care continuum. Products include clinical practice guidelines, information toolkits, teaching kits and self-study continuing medical education ("cme") exams.amda leads a five-year cdc grant named "improving adult immunization rates for covid-19, influenza, and routine adult vaccinations through partnerships with medical subspecialty professional societies and the Long-Term Care professional Society". This 5-year grant will increase covid-19, influenza, and routine adult vaccination coverage in adults with chronic medical conditions, in occupational health clinics, and in adults working and residing in Long-Term Care (ltc) facilities.
Membership and communications membership - amda is the only national organization guided entirely and exclusively by the needs and issues affecting Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. The benefits of membership are designed for, and delivered to individuals. Amda addresses the responsibilities inherent in the roles of the attending physician, medical director, practice manager, nurse practitioner and physician assistant and provides resources to the entire interdisciplinary team to help everyone work together and effectively addresses difficult clinical, administrative, and ethical issues in Post-Acute and Long-Term Care. Allied health, student and industry members are also provided resources, and amda now offers practice group network (pgn) benefits as a new category of service. for the year ended december 31, 2022, there were 2,979 individual members, 830 corporate members, and 1,043 practice group network members only.communication - amda has two publications: jamda - the journal of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine ("jamda"), a peer reviewed journal, which is distributed twelve times per year, and caring for the ages ("caring"), a monthly newsletter for postacute and long - term Care practitioners.
Public policy advocates for the interests of medical directors, attending physicians, and others practicing in the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care continuum. Amda's voice helps to educate and influence policy makers in congress and the federal agencies. Amda has helped shape important policies including physician payment and the role of the medical director and physicians in the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care continuum. Amda also offers a number of educational materials to help its members succeed in their practices.
