Acec Colorado foundation accomplishments fy2023 - in may 2023, the foundation awarded 37,500 in scholarships to Engineering students enrolled in an accredited board for Engineering & technology-accredited Engineering program at a Colorado university/college. - in april 2023, the foundation provided one 500 cash scholarship to the 2023 district 2 winner of the Colorado state high school bridge building competition, with the option for the winner to receive an additional 1,500 in the future upon providing proof of enrollment in a college- level, Colorado Engineering program. - during the 2023 Colorado engineers week in february, the foundation hosted an orientation in partnership with Colorado association of black professional engineers and scientists (cabpes) to educate employees of Engineering consulting firms about how they can get involved individually or with their firm to volunteer with cabpes' math enrichment program. This program provides math tutors for students in grades five through 12 who are struggling in math courses. - the foundation, in partnership with the students of color in technology of Colorado, hosted their february workshop. This was a fun-filled saturday with students of all ages, where the foundation, to celebrate black history month, led a presentation celebrating the contributions of black engineers throughout us history. Then, engineers from a member firm engaged with the students to talk about their jobs and what they like about them. The students were able to ask questions and took an interactive quiz to identify what type of engineer they'd most like to be based on their interests. - the diversity, equity and inclusion (dei) committee of the foundation helped create and host several educational opportunities throughout the year, specifically: - a dei listening tour (held in november 2022) that focused on what Companies are currently doing regarding dei efforts, what they would like to do, and then challenges and barriers to getting dei initiatives established and ongoing within their firms. - a panel held at the acec Colorado annual conference (may 2023) titled, "diversity equity inclusion (dei) journey spotlight." This panel, made up of four of the foundation's dei committee members, highlighted how they have worked towards more diverse equitable and inclusive cultures in their workplace. They discussed challenges and successes as advocates for dei within their respective organizations.
