Program areas at American Association of Blacks in Energy
American Association of Blacks in Energy (aabe) holds an annual conference and annual Energy policy summit. Aabe is focused on the task of helping our membership understand the implications of public policy developments related to Energy, the environment, technological advancement, and economic development. Aabe also republishes regular press releases to the Energy sector on its website.
Each year, aabe local chapters advertise the scholarship program and solicit and conduct the initial screening of applications from eligible candidates. in addition to demonstrating financial need, candidates must demonstrate academic merit and achievement. For example, they must maintain a "b" average (3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale), both overall and in their mathematics and science courses. After a rigorous review process, the national scholarship committee awards scholarships to students representing the Association's six regions. Additionally, a premier award of 5,000 is awarded to the candidate that was judged to demonstrate the most outstanding achievement and promise. Awards are announced in the spring during aabe's national conference and payments are made directly to the student upon presentation of proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university.
