Program areas at Alternatives To Violence Project California

In calendar 2019, volunteer teams facilitated 463 workshops serving 7,314 inmate in California state prisons, 16 workshops serving 242 inmates in federal prisons, 16 workshops serving 210 inmates in county jails, and 13 workshops serving 105 youth in community workshops. The number of volunteer facilitators included 1,096 inmates and 210 community people for a total of 1,306 volunteers.
Program outreach by three paid employees to coordinate prison programs, organize facilitator councils, and community workshops focused in areas identified in the grants from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Continuing educational development for non incarcerated and formerly incarcerated workshop facilitators. This includes individualized local trainings, annual statewide conference (featuring extensive teaching, training, skill-building and program planning components), and scholarships to attend the AVP-USA Annual Gathering.
