Program areas at Alma Backyard Farm
Provides a job training program to previously incarcerated individuals and at-risk youth. The training program includes introductory lessons in urban agriculture, landscaping, plumbing and carpentry. Participants are trained to grow and distribute food to low-income families.
Connects children and youth ages 3-18 to their land and food through the youth program. Children learn to make healthier choices through hands-on weekly education in gardening and culinary arts.
Establishes urban Farm plots to grow local and organic food for low-income families and socially conscious restaurants. The urban Farm plots are setup by program participants. The urban farms are also grounds for training, education and food distribution.
Housing program: the housing program expands Alma's holistic re-entry programs by supporting formerly incarcerated individuals with stable, safe and supportive housing, emotional & communal support, and a space to explore their entrepreneurial dreams. The house is also used as office space, for team building, small business lab, commercial kitchen space and storage.
