Program areas at Alaska CDC
Weatherization:ACDC provides weatherization assistance in the copper River Basin, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Kodiak Island Borough, Lake and Peninsula Borough, Mat- Su Borough, many Southeast Alaska communities, the Taylor Highway System, and the Tok area. The weatherization program provides home weatherization for low-to-moderate-income households who own or rent eligible homes: apartments, cabins, condominiums, houses, mobile homes, and multi-family dwellings (duplexes and larger) in order to bring homes up to safe, healthy, and energy-efficient standards.
Self Help:ACDC has a developed self-help housing program in the Mat-Su Valley. Selfhelp is a group method of home construction program that is available to qualified households in the low and very-low income categories. Eligible households qualify for low-interest loans and work together in groups to build each other's homes. Approximately 65% of the construction labor is provided by the group under the direction of the construction coordinator - the remaining labor is subcontracted out. Subsidized mortgages are financed by USDA Rural Development.
Housing Rehabilitation:ACDC administers two different groups under this program. The first is for individuals who have a disability. This program serves in the Kenai Peninsula and Mat-Su Borough and improves accessibility to existing homes to mitigate daily functional limitations. The second provides modifications to improve accessibility for seniors (55 years of age or older) currently in need of such modifications in the municipality of Anchorage, Mat-Su Borough, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Copper River Basin, City of Kodiak, and Tok area.
