THEATER COMPANY: Through Acts On Stage Theater, audiences can expect to regularly experience a season of small to medium cast shows from September to May. This fiscal year, we produced two shows: SOBB 2.0 in the fall of 2023, and KINGX: THE MEETING in the spring of 2024. STORY OF AN OFF BRAND BAND, written by Michelle Lang-Raymond, takes us on tour with The Preamble, a band living the dream, making great music and selling out shows BUT something is throwing the harmony off and everyone knows it. The show must go on... but how? KINGX: THE MEETING, written by Jeff Stetson and directed by Isiah Anderson Jr., stars Sean Goode and Moses Masitha in a theatrical deep dive into the explosive and impassioned confrontation that never happened! A one act play depicting the fictitious conversation between two seminal icons of the movement (Malcolm X & Martin Luther King Jr.). Ideologies clash and merge under the watchful eye of federal surveillance and unbridled dedication portrayed by Colin Parker Stephens, Michael Walker, and Joshua Webb.
RENAISSANCE 20: This year we completed the first full cycle of Renaissance 20, our young artists development program, led by Sam Townsend Jr. Group Classes in beginning piano, voice, and acting happen throughout the school year. This is another exciting step into our vision to be a new era renaissance where creativity creates change!
TEEN SUMMER MUSICAL: The Teen Summer Musical is a Signature Seattle program that has lit up the largest stages in the city for the last 25 years. In addition to creating stunning feels and vibes, the TSM serves as an excellent way to instill character and work ethic in our young performers and future leaders. Teen Summer Musical highlights some of the brightest youth stars in summer performances of classic stories with timely social justice themes. In summer 2023, TSM performed DREAM!: "A spirited story about teens who are obsessed with making their most vivid imaginations come true while being stunted by the paralyzing commentary of a society that can't see past the day to day reality. It's a highly choreographed battle between dreams rising vs dreams deferred." Written and directed by Isiah Anderson, Jr., this Broadway meets 90's sitcom styled production is a challenge to conventional thinking that is elevated by the music of Cedric Paul Thomas and given wings by emerging choreographer Myke Hodges.
OTHER PROJECTS: In addition to our traditional theater offerings, we offer video content production services, programs that develop artists (of all levels) in every discipline of the performing arts (music, dance, performance, stage craft, writing, etc.), art-based interactive workshops re: racial equity and social justice and in-the-moment / nimble services such as seasonal events, after-school clubs and artist consultation. This fiscal year our other projects included a youth CHRISTMAS CHOIR that performed around the region at holiday and pop-up events. And the Kent School District invited us to reprise a DREAM! ENCORE for students, with a free public performance as well.
