Program areas at The Actor's Express
The actors Express produces a season of theatrical productions, most of which are world and/or regional premieres. These productions run on The actors Express mainstage for five to ten weeks each. The performances are often accompanied by corollary programming which provides a forum for dialogue about issues raised in The productions. Over The past several seasons, this programming has included film screenings, talk-back sessions, readings and panel discussions. In addition to our mainstage theatrical productions, we further promote The art of theater by holding classes taught by local theatre artists. The classes include topics such as voice technique, physical comedy and dramaturgy. Classes are open to The public. The actors Express operates a professional development program to train professional actors. Each year, six to ten professional interns receive on stage performance opportunities and training in all aspects of theatre production through one on one assignments with staff members. Interns serve as The understudy company for each mainstage show and are guaranteed at least one public performance in each production. At The end of The season, The interns perform in a showcase for The theatre community. The showcase script is commissioned from a playwright and each role is specifically crafted for each intern. Given that only one graduate program in theatre exists within a 150-mile radius of atlanta, this program offers some of The most rigorous post-undergraduate training in The state. The program also offers professional opportunities to graduate theatrical design students, giving them valuable work experience and bringing new theatre talent to atlanta. The students serve as fully functioning members of The actors Express creative team. Actors Express also has a new play development program. This workshop and reading series offers developmental opportunities to emerging playwrights. In addition, The actors Express offers The use of its theatre space to small nonprofit organizations and emerging artists during times when it is not in use by The actors Express. In appropriate circumstances, we will make our space available for little or no charge.
