Fluvaxjax - a community campaign, led by the Academy of Medicine (dcms foundation), to increase flu vaccinations on the first coast. The primary goal is to minimize hospitalizations this flu season. Educating the public on flu vaccine benefits is a key part of our preventive strategy. In an average year, the first coast has about a 36.9% adult vaccination rate. During the 2020/2021 flu season, and the first year of fluvaxjax, the campaign helped to increase the adult flu vaccination rate to 48.5% by the end of flu season. For those without insurance, the cost of the flu vaccine typically ranges from 30-55. So that families do not go without their yearly flu vaccine, fluvaxjax offers no-cost flu vaccine vouchers. In total, the fluvaxjax campaign has distributed nearly 3,000 no-cost flu vaccine vouchers since the initiative began. No-cost flu vaccine vouchers will once again be distributed to the uninsured for the 2022/2023 flu season. A no-cost flu vaccine voucher request can be submitted through www.fluvaxjax.com by selecting get a vaccine.
The lifebridge: physician wellness program is designed to address the seriousness of physician burnout in our community. Practicing Medicine can be highly stressful and doctors face day to day challenges with emotional stress and work burnout. This can impact one's personal, practice or family life. In partnership with the Duval county Medical Society, we provide lifebridge, a resource that is voluntary and confidential. Once scheduling an appointment through a private 24/7 appointment line, six free sessions are available to all physicians in Duval county.
The foundation distributed personal protective equipment to the local healthcare community and their patients at no cost. The protective equipment was purchased at cost from the Duval county Medical Society as part of their campaign to make sure that the local physicians were able to protect their patients as well as themselves during the covid pandemic. The items distributed included face masks, face shields, sanitizers, gloves, thermometers as well as other protective equipment that were difficult to procure during the covid pandemic.
