Energy & environment:we work with member organizations and their facilities to ensure they are as efficient and resilient as possible in order to meet, and go beyond, compliance of varying City and state environmental policies. Through the development of toolkits, resources and research, we provide members with next steps in sustainability planning. Currently work includes the development of A collaborative climate action planning process, an internship to connect the dots between students learning building automation systems and commercial buildings, and how extreme heat affects our communities around boston.
Land use & development:a Better City Initiative, Inc. achieves its goals by funding conceptual urban design proposals to enhance the public realm and land use development initiatives including pedestiran plazas and parklets.
Transportation & infrastructure:a Better City Initiative, inc.(abci)completed further refinement of an at-grade alternative for replacement of the i-90 viaduct and resdesign of rail, pedestrian and bicycle facilities adjacent to the allston interchange. Abci also managed the seaport leadership group (slg)in south boston. The slg is making significant progress in unifying the voice of the business community in the seaport and advancing important transportation projects for this vital economic center. Abci continues to advance, along with the mbta, the implementation of automatic train operations into its red and orange line vehicle overhaul plans. Additionally, abci is working with the mbta and massdot on innovative transportation projects to build capacity and improve regional rail.
