In this help article...

Your existing clients and qualified prospects share characteristics that make them the right fit for your company's business. To grow your qualified prospect pipeline and ultimately increase your bottom line, it's crucial that you identify and understand these shared characteristics. Cause IQ's powerful tools help you do just that. Our customers use the:

  • "Common Characteristics" tool to automatically find similarities amongst organizations in a peer list, and to find "look-alike" organizations that share the similar qualities;
  • "Analyze" tool to view summary stats and identify sector-wide trends for the organizations that matter to them most;
  • "Table" view to look at raw financial values, year-over-year growth rates, and multiple percent metrics; and
  • Key performance indicators on an organization's profile to quickly see the values of the quantitative fields most relevant to them.

Find similarities among organizations in a list

Cause IQ's "Common Characteristics" tool automatically finds characteristics that a list of organizations share with each other and shows you how strongly these characteristics predict an organization being in the list. Once the common quantitative and qualitative characteristics are identified, you can tell Cause IQ to run a search to find other organizations that share the similar qualities. Cause IQ customers use the tool to view the common fields and values that relevant organizations share and to identify new prospects to grow their business. Here are the steps to use the tool:

  • Step 1

    Create a client or prospect list

    Search for relevant organizations and manually add them to a list, create a list with the CSV upload tool, or track your exports to create a list in Cause IQ.

    To use the "Common Characteristics" tool, please note that your list must contain between 5 and 500 organizations.

    The CSV upload tool is part of Cause IQ's Data Enrichment Add-on. If you're interested in adding the tool to your subscription, please contact the Cause IQ team from the orange chat widget on the bottom-right of the screen.

  • Step 2

    Access the list's profile and open the Common Characteristics tool

    From your Cause IQ Dashboard, click "Lists" on the left and select "Manual", "Uploaded from CSV", or "Tracked exports" as fitting. Find the appropriate list's name and click "Find common characteristics" at the bottom of their profile.

    This opens the "Common Characteristics" tool, and Cause IQ automatically begins finding the fields that are common amongst the organizations in the list.

  • Step 3

    View the common fields and choose which ones to include in the search query

    Once the analysis is done, the result page will automatically load and display the common fields. From there you'll see the common fields' "Value" and their "Impact". The "Impact" is measured between 0 and 1 and is calculated based on how much a given field affects the results of the search query. A higher "Impact" score will narrow down the results more than a lower one.

    The system preselects all the identified common fields. Within the results page, you can deselect all/some of the fields and choose to "Preview results" at the bottom right of the page. The preview will indicate the number of matching organizations for the selected fields. Please note that only the selected common fields will affect the search results.

  • Step 4

    Create a new search to view and work with the "look-alike" organizations

    Select "Create new search query" at the bottom right of the screen, and Cause IQ opens the search interface with the corresponding filters of the selected common fields. From there you can:

Cause IQ customers use the "Analyze" tool to discover sector-wide trends for their clients and for organizations meeting their target criteria. You can add most quantitative and qualitative fields to the "Analyze" tool, so you can view means, medians, and percentiles for quantitative fields and most common values for qualitative fields.

Many customers create lists of their clients and qualified prospects (either from scratch or from an uploaded CSV) and access the "Analyze" tool gain additional insights into their target market. Once you create a list of organizations, you can access the list's profile by clicking "Lists" on the left of your Dashboard. Once you find the name of the list that contains the organizations you want to get summary stats for, click "Open in search interface" and Cause IQ opens the search interface with the list as the only filter. To access the "Analyze" tool, click the "Analyze" tab.

To select the fields you want to analyze, click "Change fields" on the right of the screen and find the fields by "Keywords" or "Categories". Cause IQ summarizes the quantitative information (e.g., Accounting fees) in a histogram graph. The graph shows the average, median, sum total and breaks down where the organizations fall in respect to the quantitative field by percentile. The qualitative information (e.g., Tax preparer firm) is summarized in a list. The list shows you the top 10 results with respect to the selected field, and you can view the top 30 by selecting "...view more".

In addition to analyzing organizations in a list, Cause IQ customers segment organizations meeting specific search criteria and access the "Analyze" tool to better understand the market trends of the organizations. After adding appropriate fields to the "Analyze" tool, many customers download the market reports for additional analysis. You can download any report you build in the "Analyze" tool by clicking "Download report". This is especially helpful if you want to compare the same summary stats for different searches, such as market sizing for different metro areas.
