Manually create lists of organizations

Add organizations to lists for further analysis, comparison, and prospecting

In this help article...

You can easily create lists of individual organizations in Cause IQ. Creating lists of organizations allows you to:

  • Benchmark peer organizations
  • Stay up to date with customers
  • See which foundations frequently fund peer organizations
  • Further analyze prospects you're actively working
  • Identify white-space opportunities (by excluding the list from a search query)

You can choose to add an organization to a list that meets search parameters; or add a specific organization to a list by searching for them. To search for a specific organization you want to include in your list, use the smart search box at the top of the screen, the Name filter, or the EIN filter (both found in the "Name, type, and location" section of the "All filters"). You can add an organization to a list from the list tool in the Cause IQ search interface or an organization's profile

The following video explains how to create and access manual lists in Cause IQ:

Add organizations to a list from the search interface

Once you find the organization you want to add to a peer list withing the list view of search interface, click the "My saved lists" drop-down to the right of the organization's name and EIN number. You'll see any other lists that the organization belongs to and you can add the organization to an existing list or a new list by selecting "Create new list." When an organization is added to a list(s), a check mark appears in the box of the list(s) they are included in. To remove an organization from a list, click on the list name and the check mark is removed. Here's a screenshot showing how to add an organization to a list from the "List" view in Cause IQ's search interface:

Add organizations to a list from their profile

You can add an organization to a list(s) right from their Cause IQ profile. Access an organization's profile by clicking on their name in the list view of the search interface. Once you are in the organization's profile you want to add to a list, click the "add" button at the top-right of the page. As mentioned above, you can add the organization to an existing list or a new list. Here's a screenshot showing how to add an organization to a list from their Cause IQ profile:

Access your lists

You can access the lists you've created from your Cause IQ Dashboard. From the "Lists" section, select "Manual," and you see all the lists you've created. Selecting a list brings you to the list's profile. The list's profile provides characteristics of the list and presents additional options. From the list profile, you can open the list in the search interface, export organization and personnel information from the list with the export tool, and benchmark organization and compensation details from the list with the benchmark tool. Open your lists in the search interface with the My saved lists filter

When you're in Cause IQ's search interface, you can open a list of organizations you've manually created with the My saved lists filter. You can access the My saved lists filter by clicking the "Advanced search" button in your search filter sidebar, and then typing "my saved lists" into the search box at the top-left of the popup. After selecting the My saved lists filter, you'll find a dropdown with all the lists you've created in Cause IQ in the center of the popup; just select the list that you want and click "Add filter". Cause IQ will segment the organizations that belong to the selected list. If you want to open multiple lists, just select the appropriate names of the lists when adding the My saved lists filter.
