The University granted Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees, representing the College of Arts and Sciences, Westbrook College of Health Professions, College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Professional Studies-UNE Online and College of Dental Medicine. The University offers programs in Osteopathic Medicine, Allied Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Pharmacy, Dental Medicine and other Graduate and Undergraduate Majors. Additional Facts: The University of New England includes Maine's only Master of Science Physician Assistant Program and Master of Science Nurse Anesthesia Program. Colleges: The University of New England's five colleges provide both undergraduate and graduate students with a wealth of resources and a variety of educational experiences and research opportunities. Each college has its own identity, but each contributes to the enrichment of the University's academic life. COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: The College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of six multi-disciplinary schools (School of Arts and Humanities, School of Biological Sciences, School of Marine and Environmental Sciences, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, School of Professional Programs and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences) and offers more than 30 undergraduate majors, ranging from aquaculture and aquarium science to sport and recreation management. The College's graduate programs include masters programs in education, biological sciences and marine sciences; and a doctorate in educational leadership. The College of Arts and Sciences is housed on the Biddeford campus on the coast of Maine. COLLEGE OF DENTAL MEDICINE: The curriculum of the College of Dental Medicine comprises a blend of time tested methods and new innovations in dental education. Our students are treated as members of the profession from day one. They benefit from comprehensive education in the basic and behavioral sciences, and come to understand and appreciate the many connections between oral health and overall health. They gain extensive practical experience, from providing care to a simulated patient in the first year; to providing direct patient care in patient centered general practice teams in our Oral Health Center in the second and third years; to extending their clinical experience into the community during their fourth year, while working and living in communities throughout Northern New England and beyond. The College is the only College of Dental Medicine in Northern New England and is housed on the Portland campus, an historic site in suburban Portland, Maine. COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE: The College of Osteopathic Medicine is dedicated to the improvement of life through the education of Osteopathic physicians, research and service. The nationally recognized College emphasizes health, healing and primary care for the people of New England and the nation. The College is the only osteopathic medical school in New England. In addition to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, the College offers internships and residencies. The College is housed on the Biddeford campus on the coast of Maine. WESTBROOK COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS: The Westbrook College of Health Professions offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate programs include dental hygiene, nursing, applied exercise science, nutrition, public health, social work, pre-pharmacy and athletic training. Graduate programs include athletic training, nurse anesthesia, occupational therapy, physician assistant and social work. The College also offers three doctorates in physical therapy, nurse anesthesia and pharmacy. The Doctorate of pharmacy has its own school (School of Pharmacy). The College has state-of-the-art educational facilities and has pioneered the model of inter-professional education, which is housed on the Portland campus, in suburban Portland, Maine. COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES - UNE ONLINE: The mission of the College of Professional Studies: CPS educates and supports future leaders in industry and service via programs designed to catalyze meaningful career development. The College partners with the University's other four colleges to provide programmatic, financial and logistical support to students enrolled in online programs, while ensuring excellence in professional and graduate education and consistency in maintaining the highest academic standards. GLOBAL EDUCATION: The Global Education program develops and promotes global education and research opportunities. Students can study abroad via partnerships in Spain, France and Iceland or on our campus in Morocco. In 2014, the University opened its campus in Tangier, Morocco. The program enables students to choose from courses in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, business and the arts including lab science courses. Students gain a global perspective without experiencing any delay in the curriculum required for their major. RESEARCH: The University receives grants from a number of prestigious national sources including the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institute of Health, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Energy and National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The University has several research centers including; the Centers for Excellence focusing in Aging and Health, Collaborative Education, Public Health, Neurosciences, Digital Health, Marine Sciences, Study Pain and Sensory Function, and North Atlantic Studies.
Auxiliary services for the delivery of higher education include room and board for over 1,500 students. The mission is to work in partnership with resident students to create a healthy and positive residential community that enhances academic pursuits and provides opportunities for personal, social and spiritual growth. The goal is to promote an atmosphere rooted in civility and personal responsibility, and encourage reflective thinking and active involvement. The staff strives to teach, model, and learn with the students the values of community, inquiry, integrity, and caring. Maintaining a close relationship with Student Activities creates a positive impact on campus life for the entire University. Students are encouraged to actively engage in many arenas to become more deeply involved in the University, and thereby in their own education. These experiences outside the classroom can truly enhance those experiences students have within the classroom. Additional facts: University of New England Dining Services: Using input from students through comment boards, personal contacts between students and Food Service Managers, and regular meetings with campus Dining Advisory Committees, the University's dining services is able to stay in step with the students' needs and desires. All new UNE students are encouraged to take advantage of any of the above methods of connecting in order to maintain an innovative and creative dining that meets students' diverse dietary needs. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES: The University of New England offers several online services for our students, faculty, and staff: U-Online provides students, faculty, and staff with secure, web-based access to select administrative, academic, and employee records. U-Online is the only official online web-based source of information from the University. D2L - BrightSpace Learning Management System is used for our online course management system with teaching and learning tools for course preparation, delivery, assessment, and management. The University of New England has implemented an intranet using Microsoft SharePoint that administrative units, colleges, and programs utilize to provide secure information and communications to authorized members of the UNE Community. UNE also operates additional MS365 services for email, calendaring, and scheduling. OKTA is used for identity and access management that offers secure identity verification, single sign-on (SSO), and multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect employee and student identities and enable users to access apps from any device. The University of New England also standardized our synchronous communication platform to Zoom video conferencing services. BOX was implemented as our platform for secure content management, workflow, and collaboration needs. Additionally, KnowBe4 was implemented as the university's integrated platform for security awareness training combined with simulated phishing attacks.
