Our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community. We strive to improve the common good by collaborating with other non-profit charities, government agencies, and faith based groups to resolve social issues in the community. Improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community to create lasting changes. We fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all merced county residents.

Program areas at United Way of Merced County

Twenty-five bilingual staff members provide interpreting services to the local hospitals, clinics and emergency room via the language care program. Interpreting service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with face-to-face interpreters in six languages. A contract with dignity health assits them with delivering the highest professional levels of medical interpreting to complement their efforts in providing the first line of healthcare defense for the people of the County of Merced. The language care program helps to ensure that non-english speaking patients receive the same level of service and are afforded the same rights to health care as english speaking patients. The cultiva la salud project is dedicated to creating health equity by fostering changes in communities that support healthy eating and active living. This program uses policy and environmental change to help community members gain access to healthy food, beverages and safe places to be physically active
During the covid-19 pandemic the organization responded to the needs of the community by raising funds from individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations, and other sources to provide relief to residents of Merced County via a myriad of programs. Programs included ppe distribution to frontline workers, rental, mortgage, and utility assistance, non-profit stabilization grants, communtiy food distribution support, tele-education support, and distribution of basic supply needs to residents.
