Program areas at Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition

Social services formerly helping hands - this program staffed by mental health professionals, volunteers and interns, works to meet the needs of Survivors living in the Washington, dc area. Services provided include clinical case management, workforce development, english class, life skills workshops and in-house referrals to legal and psychological services.
Advocacy and outreach formerly education and outreach - this program educates policymakers and the broader public about how to combat Torture and Support Survivors living in the united states. Surviviors are involved in developing and implementing tasscs advocacy agenda, which focuses on two or three key issues each year. As a part of this program, tassc hosts its annual june Survivors week to commemorate the united nations international day in Support of victims of Torture. The advocacy program hold a major conference and an advocacy day in the u.s. congress.
Health psychological wellness - this progam provides individual and group counseling in a safe, caring and confidential environment. After arriving in the united states, Survivors may experience depression, sleeping problems and fearfulness. Culturally-based healing techniques, trauma-informed interventions, yoga and massage sessions and meditation all assist Survivors to cope with multiple losses and traumas. This program also includes communities of healing, in which Survivors and staff meet with one another to promote individual and collective healing, connection and recovery.
