The Food Addiction Institute aims to raise awareness, educate and train people about chemical dependency food as a substance abuse illness. It also encourages the development of effective treatment methods and promotes research for treating food addiction. In support of its mission, it has compiled and catalogued over 800 peer reviewed scientific articles to advocate for the acceptance of Food Addiction as a medical diagnosis in the next revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
