Program areas at Safe Space NYC
Preventive services - these services aim to prevent child abuse neglect and unnecessary foster care placement by supporting and strengthening families and helping them become resilient and self-sufficient. Services are offered independently or as a part of a holistic program, depending on the needs, such as case management, parent education, substance abuse counseling, support groups, home visits, and specialized support for domestic violence survivors and immigrant families.
Young adult services- these services provide young people with safe and productive alternatives to street culture and give them the skills, knowledge, guidance, and experience to become self-sufficient adults. Services include case management and counseling, educational workshops, job readiness training, college discovery programs, art activities, and opportunities for socializing and recreation. Safe space also operates two 12-bed transitional residences for homeless and runaway youths, one of which exclusively serves hiv positive youths.
Mental health services - safe space operates three licensed mental health clinics in, jamaica, far rockaway, and richmond hill, which provide clinical services to invididuals in need. Safe space also operates a school-based mental health clinic in jamaica.
