Community outreach and support programs in response to the covid-19 pandemic, Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California (PWC) has launched an emergency response program in support of Pilipino Workers and their families, including food packages, hot meals, transportation financial assistance, health information, safety training for providers of care to the elderly and the elderly, and other emergency assistance. PWC has created an infrastructure of covid-19 related resources and assistance for filipino Workers and through sub-granted partners, the larger population of immigrant Workers in los angeles and san diego their family and friends and other community members. Pwcs covid-19 related services have incorporated multiple strategies, including educational outreach, Workers rights education, public health campaigns, one-on-one assistance, townhall meetings and other educational events, workplace trainings, addressing misinformation, updates and safety supplies. Through these strategies, PWC has increased an understanding about covid-19 contraction, testing, vaccination Workers rights, insurance coverage, among Workers in various including manufacturing, garment, warehouse, agricultural restaurant, care-home, janitorial, hospitality and other service industries. PWC also increased access to vaccination and testing
Towards freedom anti-human trafficking progam: over 18 thousand women, men and children are trafficked into the united states every year and los angeles is one of the primary destinations. PWC supports individual labor trafficking survivors and their families in 15 states across the us with culturally and linguistically effective case management that addresses their needs and aorund housing, food, clothing, safety, counseling, medical care legal services. PWC also is supporting the development of a biggger network of community organizations who can support this population across the country, and is working to end trafficking by education us and philippine policy-makers and enforcement agencies about this issue.
Homecare worker empowerment program - aimed at improving conditions in the private home care industry for both Workers and consumers through outreach and education, strategic enforcement, workforce development, leadership development, advocacy and the development of alternative, cooperative models. This includes developing and providing training and tools for caregivers on Workers rights, skills development and occupational health and safety. Through case management, PWC helps the individual issues of wage theft and discrimination. At the same time, PWC educates decision-makers and the general public about the issues of domestic Workers with special focus on Pilipino home care Workers. As a part of the caring across generations campaign, PWC also works closely with consumers to advocate for publicly-funded long-term care programs that will help families and individuals to afford home care and other supports that will allow them to age with dignity at home in their communities.
