Program areas at American Hair Research Society
Annual scientific meetings are held enabling clinicians and scientists to examine the many aspects of hair diseases and treatments. Topics include diagnosis, epidemiology, hormones, hair growth and pattern hair loss, immunobiology, stem cells, morphogenesis, neogenesis and tissue engineering, genetics, genomics and personalized medicine, hair transplantation, auxiliary cells, and hair structure.
The organization hosts a website to provide ready access to recently published articles or presentations on hair research and treatment and to inform researchers and clinicians about upcoming meetings pertinent to hair biology and research. The Seal of Recognition program was created to inform physicians and consumers about products whose quality and effectiveness are beneficial in some aspect to promoting healthy hair and scalp, in diagnosing or treating hair or scalp disease or hair loss, or in stimulating or inhibiting hair growth. A positive review will result in a Seal of Recognition granted by the Organization.
To enable young physicians and scientists to acquire additional academic or research skills that will further their careers as leaders in hair research, mentorship grants up to $2,500 each are awarded for training, dermatology or dermatopathology residents, fellows, or junior faculty to enable study with a hair research mentor. Both the mentor or the applicant must be a member of the North American Hair Research Society. Twelve awards were granted in 2022.
