Program areas at National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid South Chapter
RESEARCH- To move us closer to a world free of MS, in 2016, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society invested $47.7 million to support more than 380 research projects around the world aimed at stopping MS in its tracks, restoring function, and ending the disease forever. The Society collaborates worldwide to develop solutions for everyone affected by MS through the accelerated discovery and commercial development of promising research discoveries, new MS therapies, and research tools - pursuing all promising paths, while focusing on priority areas including progressive MS, nervous system repair, gene/environmental risk factors and wellness and lifestyle.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS - The Society collaborates with dozens of other community organizations, focusing on access to health care, rehabilitation, treatments and therapies; long-term care; disability rights issues; vocational training and rehab, wellness and fitness; and outreach and education to rural and underserved populations.
CLIENT PROGRAMS - People affected by MS connect to one another and an extensive network of services and resources. Many programs facilitate education, recreation, physical and emotional wellness, and connection with others affected by MS. Other programs support independence, safety, health and quality of life. In 2016, the MS Navigator program provided more than 162,000 people with information, emotional support, and connections to resources. In addition, more than 62,000 people attended Society programs. More than 950,000 people engaged in conversations and accessed information and support on the Society's online community and social media channels.
