Program areas at Mint Theater Company

Mint Theater Company staged two new productions in fy22, offering live performances for the first time since 2020. Our two productions employed a total of 39 actors, designers, directors, and stage managers, all on off-broadway contracts, plus dozens of others who built our sets, hung our lights, stitched our costumes, worked backstage or in the front-of-house. Our wage bill went up significantly in fy22, as we became members of the off-broadway league. Actor salaries increased by about 25%, director salaries by 35%.we continued to offer free streaming of archival video of past performances to Theater lovers not ready to venture out and to audiences not in new york. (continued on schedule o)this streaming brought paychecks to actors, designers, and directors, including contributions to pension and health funds. Nearly two-thirds of Mint's total expenses for fy22 went to salaries, fees and benefits. Fy22 expenses included a significant amount for compliance with union mandated covid-19 rules. This amount does not include hiring understudies for our casts, not a typical expense in years past. Five understudies were pressed into action due to covid cases among our actors. Thankfully we never had to cancel a performance and each of our actors were eventually able to return safely to work. Our first production was the daughter-in-law by d.h. lawrence, which ran for 48 performances at new york city center stage ii from february 8 through march 20, 2022. Our production was seen by 3,883 theatergoers. Our second production was chains by elizabeth baker which began performances on june 7, 2022. 2,116 theatergoers saw chains in fy22. (performances continued through july 23.)
