Program areas at Jevs Human Services

Community living and home supports - see description on schedule ocommunity living and home supports: these programs provide a range of residential and case management Services, designed to optimize independence and dignity. Person-centered, community-based residential and day program options are offered for individuals with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness. These programs are alternatives to more costly and more restrictive institutional settings. Residential options include community living arrangements (2 to 3 person homes), in-home supports, supported independent living and life sharing. Life sharing, a service similar to foster care, provides a permanent opportunity for individuals to share a home with a provider family. Our self-directed personal attendant Services allow adult disabled individuals to self-direct their own attendant care at home and in the community. These programs served 1,513 individuals this year.with the advent of the covid-19 pandemic, Jevs adopted protocols for employee and client safety and distributed personal protective equipment (ppe) to its staff and residents. Jevs maintained program operations for its residential Services through the pandemic. The covid-19 pandemic required non-residential programs to transition to remote and virtual Services. Jevs utilized phone and video conferencing to support telehealth and remote counseling strategies.
Career and technical education - see description on schedule ocareer and technical education:jevs' flagship vocational training program is orleans technical college, a licensed and nationally accredited technical school in philadelphia. Orleans technical college has been providing technical skills training to students since 1974, preparing students for jobs with family-sustaining wages. Jevs' educonnect program connects individuals to the credentials they need to begin or advance in growth career fields, whether the individual needs a certification, training courses, or a college degree. Registered apprenticeships are an evidence-based approach to talent development, providing businesses with diverse and knowledgeable workers. As an apprenticeship intermediary, Jevs works collaboratively with employers to train, develop, and support their employees. These programs served 1,895 individuals this year.the covid-19 pandemic and public health shut-down orders required Jevs to discontinue in-person instruction at times during the year. Programs adopted remote instructional delivery strategies where possible.
Workforce development- see description on schedule oworkforce development:services include employment counseling, english language training, assessment, job placement, job coaching, vocational evaluation and case management for the unemployed and underemployed. The individuals we serve are seeking support at pivotal points in their lives including those transitioning from welfare-to-work, refugees, returning citizens, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and others who are economically disadvantaged, including those adversely impacted by downturns in the economy. For many served in these programs, these activities are the first step to economic self-sufficiency. These programs served 10,403 individuals this year.the covid-19 pandemic and associated shutdown required the agency to transition some Services in these areas at times to remote and virtual delivery. Jevs maintained program operations for all but a handful of Services and used telephone and video conferencing to continue the work of the agency.
