Program areas at Identity2020 Systems
Id2020 and its alliance partners work together towards a shared vision of maximizing the potential of digital id to improve lives through three workstreams. Technical market shaping: transforming markets to make user-managed, privacy-protecting, and portable digital id the norm. Advocacy: collective advocacy to educate policymakers and regulators, technologists, implementers, and the public and build support for "good" id.program support: accelerating the uptake of good digital id programs, with a proactive focus on ensuring that the benefits of digital id are equitably distributed.
Id2020 implements good digital id programs to accelerate uptake and facilitate access to vital rights and services, particularly for vulnerable populations. In partnership with irespond and the international rescue committee, offered a digital identity platform to about 20,000 externally displaced residents of the mae la camp in thailand.
Id2020 began work on a pilot project in bangladesh - in collaboration with gavi and the government of bangladesh - designed to provide infants in bangladesh with a portable, biometrically-linked digital id either at the point of birth registration or at the time of routine immunization.the program will proceed in four phases from mid/late 2021 to late 2025. The proposed program will be phased, beginning with a piloting phase, moving into a regional scaling phase, and culminating in a national scaling phase. A key outcome of this program is a replicable model by which digital id could be scaled in other country contexts.
